Government Shutdown and Your VA Loan

October 10th, 2013 5:14 AM by Joan Rusco

We continue to work to get your VA Loan done despite the shutdown. As we write this the government shutdown is in day 10. We want you to know that the VA Loan program is still operating. A few days ago the Veterans Administration put out a bulletin about the shutdown effect on the lending program:

"The VA Home Loan Guaranty Program will continue to function as normal in the event of a government shutdown."

However there are some areas that may affect your loan process. The IRS is not processing any applications for tax forms required by lenders. The Social Security Administration is not able to verify Social Security Numbers. For our Rural Development clients (not VA Loans) the process was being stopped during the shutdown. As the shutdown comes to an end we expect a backlog of work at the federal level. For that reason there may be delays once the federal departments are back up and running.

We are working full steam ahead to complete our client’s loan applications. If you have any specific questions about your loan or starting a new purchase or refinance loan do not hesitate to call or email. Remember, we consider it a privilege to serve those who have served us!
